Intentional Rust-Embracing Designs

CLB Architects Creates a Wyoming Home Embraces the Look of Rust

A contemporary home located in Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park is clad in black steel that will rust over time. Designed by US-based firm CLB Architects, this home serves as a family's secondary residence and lies at the base of a picturesque mountain range.

The house sits on an 18-acre lot and enjoys the privacy of the surrounding rugged wilderness. The home is split into two structures that are connected by a terrace. The larger structure houses the primary living spaces, while the smaller volume contains guest quarters. To achieve optimal views of the outdoors, the structure is raised six feet above the ground with a balcony that gradually meets the ground terrain.

The black steel panels clad the building's exterior and will rust over time, bringing a completely new character to the property.
