There are certain types of hybrid furnishings that commonly double as other pieces of furniture, but you probably won't have seen anything that functions quite like the Rug Chair. This clever and inconspicuous item behaves as a floor covering and a seat in one.
YOY of Japan gave this area rug a concealed structure of 1cm thick aluminum that was then covered in elastic fabric and polyester. The stretchy material moves with the malleable metal as the user curls the carpet up from one side. Bend the Rug Chair over as if you're attempting to fold it in half, and the structure will stop stiffly with a C-shaped profile. In this position, the eccentric seat is able to support the weight of one person, with her reading materials stashed beneath.
