New York city is now the home to a 42,000 square foot rooftop farm field. Architects from Bromley Caldar have partnered with Cumen Capital Partners & Brooklyn Grange LLC to design and create this ecologically enhancing farm. It sits atop a renovated seven-storey 300,000 square foot building in Long Island, New York.
The farm contains 1 million pounds of soil that had to be transplanted to the roof. It is one of the many farms in New York that resides on a roof but this one is the largest. The entire building, which is home to modern offices of industry professionals from fashion, media, film, print and design got a massive overhaul.
The building now features "low-e windows, refreshed exterior lighting and signage, an additional elevator, electrical upgrades, contemporary lobby and entrance canopy, modern corridors with energy efficient lighting, and bathrooms with low-consumption fixtures".
