Automatically-Expanding Phone Screens

Vivo and Transsion are Planning the First Rollable Phone

Vivo and Transsion, two leading Chinese smartphone makers, are reportedly working on launching the world’s first consumer-available rollable screen smartphone by the end of 2024. The device is expected to feature a screen that can expand from 6.55 inches to 7.11 inches, a high resolution of 2296x1596 pixels, and a dual-sided display for notifications. This technology allows users to adjust the size of their display with a simple touch, offering more flexibility and convenience.

The rollable smartphone from Vivo and Transsion is a premium product, as it will require advanced materials and components to achieve a smooth and seamless transition of the screen. The exact pricing and availability of the device are still unknown, but it is speculated that it will be launched in China first, followed by other markets. The rollable smartphone will compete with the foldable devices from Samsung, which currently dominate the segment of flexible displays.
