Huawei is reportedly working on a rollable smartphone for 2024, according to a recent patent filed by the Chinese tech giant. The patent describes a device with a “folding mechanism, rolling screen structure and electronic equipment” that can extend its display size by rolling up and unrolling. This would allow the user to switch between a normal smartphone mode and a mini-tablet mode, depending on their needs.
The rollable smartphone is not the only innovative form factor that Huawei is exploring. The company is also said to be developing a tri-fold device that folds twice to form a Z shape, with a 10-inch display when fully open. This device could target the PC and tablet market, as well as the smartphone market, offering a versatile and compact solution. Huawei is expected to launch its tri-fold device in the first half of 2024, while the rollable smartphone could follow later in the year.
