Revolution Architects Have Designed Recyclable Temporary Homes
Francesca Mercurio — August 9, 2021 — Eco
Mexican technology and architecture firm Revolution have designed a temporary housing project for COVID-19 healthcare workers. A series of companies and donors funded the project to address the lack of housing for COVID-19 caring healthcare workers. Many of Mexico's healthcare workers were found sleeping in cars as they avoided returning home to protect their families.
Revolution designed a series of temporary structures made out of prefabricated wood and biodegradable plastic. Each structure is completed with a bedroom, shower, sink, toilet, water tank, and solar heating. The modules were designed to be cost-efficient, easy to assemble, and recyclable. This modular compound was designed to be installed in empty spaces, such as hospital parking lots. The modules have natural light and light-colored walls to offer the healthcare workers a meditative space.
