Tetsuya Mizuguchi Updated Tetris to Be More Visually Engaging

One of the most iconic retro arcade games from the 80s is coming back into the rotation with a visual twist. Designed for the PlayStation 4 counsel, the 'Tetris Effect' is trippier and more engaging with a multimedia approach that combines "mesmerizing artwork, music, animated backgrounds and redesigned blocks."

The retro arcade game has been revived by Japanese developer Tetsuya Mizuguchi. The slightly modified name of the update is referential to an actual phenomenon observed in the original version, where people would start seeing Tetris blocks everywhere if they played the game for too long.

Tetsuya Mizuguchi preserves the core essence of the retro arcade game, while simultaneously making it more engaging with "30+ stages, each with its own fantastical theme" that are specifically designed to "provoke an emotional response."
