Recently, Google released next-generation RCS texting capabilities to Android users in the United States. Users will now be able to respond to a prompt in the Android messaging app to use the new capabilities. Google states that RCS texting will be internationally available before the end of the year.
Google has also indicated that it will only store messages during the time they are in transit. This may quell concerns shared by privacy-conscious users who may not want messages stored over longer periods of time.
RCS texting offers users better performance than standard SMS messaging. The increased capabilities could entice users who are currently using Android devices to enable the new texting feature. Additionally, it could sway consumers to choose Android devices over other alternatives on the market.
