The Pure Tension by SDA Fits Neatly into a Car's Trunk
Meghan Young — July 16, 2013 — Autos
The Pure Tension pavilion is a portable solar-charging station that complements the Volvo V60 car's highly efficient nature. The winner of a recent design competition, it fits neatly into the trunk of the car until needed. When deployed, the Pure Tension pavilion provides a breath-taking shelter that many will not be able to peel their eyes from. This is due in large part to its mesh fabric floral design.
Designed by Synthesis Design + Architecture (SDA), a Los Angeles-based architecture firm led by architect and USC professor Alvin Huang, the Pure Tension pavilion nevertheless boasts photovoltaic valves that make it even more impressive. Combining fashion with function, these valves harness the sun's energy to directly charge the car’s battery for power.
