Google Launched Project Oasis to Help Small News Organizations

Google is launching a new initiative, named Project Oasis, which will attempt to create and enhance sustainable business models for local news organizations. In order to develop Project Oasis, Google has partnered with the UNC Hussman School of Media and Journalism, as well as LION Publishers and more. The collection of organizations will create a database of local publications across Canada and the United States.

Following this, they will talk to the founders of these organizations to learn best practices that can be shared throughout the industry. Additionally, Google will also be sharing its vast digital knowledge with these organizations.

Google has a history of supported smaller journalism organizations. In 20218 Google gave out free G Suite licenses to organizations with less than 500 people on staff.
