Lisa Marks' Post-Mastectomy Bra Combines Handicrafts & Algorithms

A number of designers have created comfortable post-mastectomy bras for people who have undergone mastectomy surgery and Lisa Marks is introducing the Algorithmic Lace bra as a next-gen design for those who have had breast tissue removed. While there are many mastectomy bras that are designed to hold prosthetic pieces, this design is patterned to create the illusion of symmetry.

The tailor-made bra is shaped for an individual's body with a 3D scan and combines elements of both technology and handicrafts, particularly with the use of Croatian bobbin lace. Thanks to computer modelling, Marks updated a lacemaking technique that's traditionally been limited to just two dimensions to three dimensions.

The innovative Algorthmic Lace Bra was awarded the Lexus Design Award 2019.
