While more convenient, technology can make interactions less personal, and in an effort to change this, MasterCard has implemented a sonic melody at POS transactions, providing consumers with the confirmation that their purchase has been approved.
This system, which launched throughout South Asia, is compatible with MasterCard purchases made through Androids. MasterCard's Vice President of Marketing & Communication, Manasi Narasimhan helped explain the choice to move toward sound by stating that, "Over the years, Mastercard has been working in India to increase consumers’ trust in the safety, security, and convenience of digital payments. Sound is a powerful way to create an emotionally and culturally relevant connection with consumers."
When it comes to new technology, winning the trust of consumers can be a daunting task. MasterCard's sonic melody hopes to serve as a reliable reminder that one's money is being handled with security, and care.
