The Petco In-Store Recycling Program is Supported by Trex

The Petco in-store recycling program allows customers to recycle non-curbside plastic waste, such as used plastic shopping bags and other plastic films, at participating Petco stores. In addition, Petco stores will recycle plastic waste generated from the business' shipping and operations. The initiative is made possible through a collaboration with Trex's NexTrex collection program. The recycled plastic will be converted into composite decking material by Trex for commercial and residential use.

It is estimated that the Petco in-store recycling program could divert nearly 40,000 pounds of plastic waste initially, with the potential to reach approximately 864,000 pounds as the program grows. This initiative responds to feedback from both consumers and Petco employees and is part of Petco's broader sustainability strategy, which emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices in improving pets' health and wellbeing.
