In her Paper Theater series, artist Elly MacKay creates intricate settings using little pieces of paper which she hand paints and assembles into perfect little images.
Through photographs of the artwork the viewer gets a peak at the dimensions of putting flat piece of paper in front of each other to create a multi-layered narrative that is visually enchanting. Her tales follow young characters as they explore and experience the wondrous world around them, set in surreal environments such as misty lagoons and circus parks. These images pique the curiosity and spark the imagination, creating a visual display that has immense depth although it is made from 2D components.
Each image in Elly MacKay's paper theater tells its own tale and leaves the story up to the viewer's imaginative thoughts.
