Steel Box Architecture

OceanScope Observatory is Made of Recycled Shipping Containers

South Korea’s OceanScope Observatory is constructed of recycled shipping containers perched at differing angles and heights in order to take advantage of Songdo New City, Incheon harbor views. The project repurposes five shipping containers to create an environmentally sensitive, aesthetically pleasing piece of architecture.

Korean designers Keehyun Ahn and Minsoo Lee of AnL Studio are behind the project design. One of their objectives was to give the lowly shipping container, often used as affordable housing by rural residents, an upscale and artistic interface with the environment.
