Handmade Craft Tradeshow Initiatives

NY NOW Brings Independent Craft Back to the Trade Show Floor

After years of mass-produced goods dominating retail, independent makers, small-batch production and authentic craft are becoming increasingly valuable to buyers looking for products with a story, a point of view and a clear sense of origin. NY NOW is leaning into that shift with the return of HANDMADE, a juried division launching at its Winter 2027 show in New York. The revived platform will bring together 75 established and emerging designers and artisans across two collections: Designer-Maker, focused on small-batch handmade and hand-finished work, and Global Design, highlighting makers rooted in distinct cultural and regional traditions.

Applicants will be reviewed by an independent committee of retailers, designers and industry specialists based on provenance, design, craftsmanship, storytelling and small-batch production. The panel includes experts across artisan retail, glassware, wholesale and jewelry strategy.

A new Handmade in America designation recognizes products made entirely by hand in the U.S., reinforcing the connection between maker, product and place. As part of NY NOW’s revamped Winter 2027 show, HANDMADE gives independent makers a wholesale platform centered on craftsmanship, provenance and individuality.

Provenance-led Retail
Retail buyers are placing greater value on products with clear origins, maker narratives and cultural context, creating space for authentication tools, storytelling platforms and origin-based merchandising models.
Small-batch Wholesale
Limited-run production is reshaping trade show sourcing by favoring uniqueness over scale, opening opportunities for inventory systems, buyer marketplaces and flexible wholesale logistics built around artisan capacity.
Craft-centered Curation
Juried maker showcases are elevating craftsmanship as a commercial filter, enabling new discovery formats that blend expert review, design credibility and differentiated product assortment.
