When you think of a language app, you likely first think of apps that are designed to help you learn a widely spoken language such as French or Mandarin for example, but the Nubi app is different in that it aims to preserve the threatened language and heritage of Nubia, a region along the Nile river in Egypt.

This app, developed by a young Egyptian entrepreneur, offers lessons in two distinct dialects of the Nubian language. However, the app also aims to promote Nubian culture beyond just the language. For example, future versions of the Nubi app will enable users to order products from Nubian craftspeople, and even allow them to browse and visit restaurants, museums and tourist attractions in Nubia.

This is a truly innovative language app that doesn't merely promote linguistic knowledge, but uses the language to boost tourism and aid the preservation of an ancient cultural heritage.
