The 'Neighbours' app is the latest development from Ring, makers of the video doorbell, that builds off the company's Neighborhoods feature by focusing on shared neighborhood security. Available on iOS and Android, the new app allows users to send and receive alerts based on caught-on-doorbell-video footage that catches crimes and misdemeanors in a neighborhood. While security apps for the home already exist, the 'Neighbours' app aims to focus more on a community aspect and is more akin to a neighborhood watch organization.
The app is not necessarily a peer-driven community, as police departments and law enforcement agencies can sign up and share collected data through the platform. The power offered by the 'Neighbours' app may cause some to take issue, but the app ensures that the platform will be used responsibly as it includes numerous guidelines that include "treat neighbours with respect" and "no politics."
