NAPUR Architect Designs the National Athletics Center

The National Athletics Center in Budapest was initially built to host a world championship event with a large temporary capacity. Recently, the architectural firm NAPUR Architect won a design competition, commissioned by the Hungarian State, to upgrade the structure as part of the "long-term urban design [project] of the Budapest Southern City Gate development."

NAPUR Architect removed temporary stands to transform the stadium into a permanently accessible, open-air recreational complex for public use. The structure itself is noted for its distinctive roof and its symbolic architectural form. The new elements of the redevelopment are the "new Athletics Stadium and Park to be established on the site of the Vituki industrial estate in Ferencváros, the planned new pedestrian and bicycle cable bridge connecting to the tip of North Csepel, and the new Athletics Training Center accessible through it."
