Virtual Moon Etchings

Create Moon Art or Messages on the Surface of This Site's Digital Moon

A collaboration between Olafur Eliasson and Ai Weiwei created 'moonmoonmoonmoon,' a site where visitors could draw moon art onto a virtual moon. As Gizmodo notes, "only 12 people have ever made a mark on the surface of the Moon," but this project is meant to give everyone a voice and the chance to inscribe a message or drawing on the moon.

After registering an account, the interactive site allows users to create and explore the works of others. Just like the vastness of the moon's surface, the site has become full of user-created messages and drawings. To search for specific creations, users can browse by tags, which also helps to make finding the messages left by Eliasson and Weiwei that much easier.
