MB&F M.A.D.Gallery ML15 Helios Limited Edition by Frank Buchwald

— February 25, 2026 — Art & Design
The MB&F M.A.D.Gallery ML15 Helios Machine Light is a limited-edition lighting sculpture released to mark the 15th anniversary of the M.A.D.Gallery. It was created in collaboration between MB&F and Berlin-based artist Frank Buchwald, with only 15 units produced. The work combines a three-legged stainless steel structure with brass elements and weighs approximately 9 kg. At its centre is a spherical lamp with a 120 mm diameter, surrounded by a dimmable LED ring that produces a corona-like lighting effect. The central assembly is supported by a bracket that holds two transparent blue diffuser rings. The head section of the piece can be adjusted, allowing it to rotate up to 90° in total.

The unit includes electrical wiring housed in flexible stainless steel tubes and is powered via a silver textile cable with a blue illuminated switch. Each ML15 Helios piece undergoes several weeks of manual machining and fine-tuning during production.

Trend Themes
1. Limited-edition Art-tech Lighting - Scarce runs of mechanically intricate lighting pieces create collectible value by merging technological components with gallery-level provenance.
2. Material-hybrid Sculptures - Blends of stainless steel, brass and colored diffusers produce novel tactile and visual contrasts that redefine functional sculpture aesthetics.
3. Mechanized Adjustable Lightforms - Integrated articulation and dimmable LED systems enable programmable light behavior that transforms static objects into responsive ambient devices.
Industry Implications
1. Luxury Home Decor - High-end interior markets respond to sculptural lighting as status objects that command premium pricing and curated collector interest.
2. Artisanal Manufacturing - Small-batch, hand-finished production techniques support differentiated products where craftsmanship and precision machining coexist.
3. High-end Lighting Design - Design studios focused on bespoke illumination explore hybrid engineering and aesthetic language to deliver experiential luminaires for premium clients.
