MetaWorld is an upcoming VR experience and multiplayer game that will let its users explore a massive digital world. The VR universe will expand 10,000 square miles, which is about 275 square miles larger than the entire state of real-life Maryland.

To be sure, it's pretty unlikely that anyone will get MetaWorld confused with Maryland while experiencing its VR landscape. The game is soft and cartoony, with characters more reminiscent of Nintendo Wii avatars than real humans. However, the scale of the game is very real. It was made possible with the help of SpatialOS, an engine designed by a company called Improbable.

In terms of gameplay, MetaWorld is something like Minecraft, allowing users to scavenge and hunt from the environment and then build and create using whatever they manage to round up. MetaWorld's gigantic playing space shows the drive for truly immersive VR experiences.
