Pimax Unveiled the 'Portal' All-in-One Gaming Console

'Pimax' unveiled its upcoming metaverse-focused gaming handheld titled the 'Pimax Portal.' The Portal was showcased during a demonstration at Pimax's Pimax Frontier 2022 presentation. In the informative video for the Portal, Pimax notes several problems with the current gaming console market, namely slow hardware updates, closed gaming ecosystems, and the fact that each device performs essentially a single task.
The company then introduced the Portal as the answer to each of these problems. The device will feature a Nintendo Switch-like design with a central gamepad and two wireless bumper controllers that connect to either side of the device. However, the device will also be able to slide into a VR headset to act as a screen for immersive metaverse content. When in this mode, the bumper controllers slide into full hand-tracking grips to enhance the virtual reality experience.
As for the console itself, Pimax claims its Portal features a 5.5-inch, 4k-resolution screen with a refresh rate of 144Hz and full HDR color support. The company did not yet announce pricing or a release window.
