A crumbling townhouse in Tel Aviv's oldest neighborhood has been restored and elevated thanks to Israeli architect Meirav Galan. The designer took a dilapidated space and transformed it into a contemporary hotel-like home.
The townhouse is located in Neve Tzedek, a neighborhood filled with townhouses built in the 19th century. The architect redesigned this home and configured the entire space around a central courtyard that brings natural light into the interior spaces. The designers conserved as much of the historic architecture as possible while introducing contemporary elements such as a reconfigured staircase that allows for more fluid movement between floors.
A new basement was underpinned, while an additional second story was added at the rear side of the house to preserve the front entrance's historic architecture.
