A new year, a new notebook. This Matter New Years gift was presented to Matter Strategic Design's clients as a token of its appreciation and an opportunity to start fresh for 2012. A pair of beautiful yellow-embellished patterned journals come in each bleach-white box, developed with a cleverness that references the turnover from the previous calendar year.
Two digits brand the front of the sketchbook sleeves with a number 12 in a fine italic typeface. A zipper perforated strip acts as access to the mailer's contents, located quite unusually across the middle of the box. The recipient must pull a tab from the top of the envelope, striking a diagonal slit between the printed 1 and the 2. The interstice seems to become a textual character as well, emulating the written notation of the year.
