The Material World photo portfolio is a series of portraits documenting the current materialistic generation. Instead of catching the buying and selling in action or the products and services in use, this photo series shows the waste that has accumulated because of this constant consumption.
Photographed by David Welch, the Material World photo series brings into focus the blurred line between want and need.
Welch takes his Material World photo series one step further by creating monuments from this waste. He writes, "The totems speak of accumulation and materiality and encourage debate about consumption, media, class, gender and the ways in which we feel compelled to consume."
