While these massaging chairs appear extremely simple in design, and they indeed are, their purpose is to spark interaction between both sitter and seat as well as companion users. The 'Roll' collection from Studio Verena Hennig is made of aluminum spinning tubes that roll side to side when a person is seated. They were displayed as a backdrop for a future of transport design show.
The pieces engaged people who sat side-by-side to laugh and talk about the fun sensation the rolling tubes had on their backs and bottoms. With the intention of providing the same experience in a home or bus as they do in a gallery, the chairs are meant to be both a conversation starter as well as a novel sitting experience, all stemming from a relatively plain design.
