Japanese Design Brand Nendo Creates Chairs Inspired by Comic Books

Japanese design brand Nendo has created a manga-inspired chair line that draws inspiration from popular culture.

The exhibit features several unique chairs with aesthetics that one would often see in manga, a comic book style that is unique to Japan. Each chair features different patterns and shapes, some of which seem to represent the exaggerated movement often drawn in manga comic books. These include swirls, pixelated shapes, abstract lines, stars and vibration-inspired motifs that adorn each furniture piece.

While perhaps lacking in functionality, the unique quality of the chairs -- along with their sleek modern appearance -- makes them double as sculptural art pieces that design lovers can proudly display within their home.
