Traditionally Inspired Wooden Boxes

Aljoud Lootah's Mandoos Collection Celebrates Ornate Brass

Dubai-based multidisciplinary artist Aljoud Lootah is exploring Emirati culture through intelligent and inspired product design through her Mandoos collection. By combining traditional silhouettes and concepts with modern elements, Lootah is able to interpret Emirati culture in a way that has never quite been explored before. All the pieces in the collection feature patterns, folds, and geometric shapes, which are all traditional in some way and are deep inspirations for Lootah and her works.

Designed to celebrate the importance and history of the mandoo, embellished brass nails, Lootah's Mandoos collection features distinct wooden chests adorned with ornamental brass nails. Each of these nails come covered with designs and engravings, something that was once common and coveted but no longer holds value in modern society.
