Manbroidery

Macho Needlepoint

This Flickr pool dedicated to men who sew is really funny. Oh yes--manbroidery has arrived. Surprisingly, there are some real hotties in the photos.

For me, the extra macho touches--like smoking and drinking beer while they sew-- are what really make manbroidery special. Macho actions and girly imagery go to war in each photograph.

As you’d expect, the manbroiderers are working on some pretty macho designs. The testosterone-fueled work in the gallery above features Pac-Man, guns and arcade games.

Macho Crafts
Crafts traditionally thought of as feminine are being embraced by men, creating an opportunity for companies to market to this new audience.
Gender Blurring Hobbies
More men are participating in crafts that were once thought of as female-dominated, allowing for new products and marketing strategies.
Retro Designs
Retro video games and designs are becoming popular in the crafting community, creating an opportunity for companies to tap into this nostalgic trend.

Who This Affects Most

Crafting
As more men participate in crafts, companies can create designs and marketing strategies that appeal to a more gender-neutral audience.
Gaming
The popularity of retro video games and designs in crafting may create opportunities for gaming companies to create merchandise featuring classic games.
Alcohol and Tobacco
As manbroiderers are often portrayed smoking and drinking, companies within the alcohol and tobacco industries may want to partner with crafting companies to create co-branded products.
