Malelonn is an extremely talented Chinese photographer who specializes in surreal satiric photography. His works usually feature lone protagonists set against arresting, multilayered backdrops that are equal parts as illusory and phantasmagorical as they are beautiful.
Malelonn's artwork showcases an originality that is powered by an unrestrained adolescent-like imagination. One painting displays a man dressed in regal Chinese costuming and a peach head scolding the viewer for laughing at him. Another shows a postman disregarding conventions associated with time, gravity and space by riding his bicycle through a wall on his route.
Malelonn has received incredible critical and commercial acclaim for his fantastical imagery, leading him to an alternate career as the director of short films and commercials. His images are currently on display at Shanghai’s Pure Gallery 2902 until May 7th, 2011.
