The 'Macaronut' is a Cross Between Two Different Pastries

March 20th is National Macaron Day and pastry chef François Payard is celebrating the occasion with a delicious new treat called the 'Macaronut.' While the delicate French pastries are already available in a wide variety of weird and wonderful flavors, now the bite-sized deserts are receiving an American-style makeover.

The Macaronut is a cross between a French macaron and an American-style donut. The base of the dessert consists of a large macaron with a punched out center. Instead of traditional macaron filling, the pastry is stuffed with strawberry creme and decorated with sprinkles. The result is a decadent treat that combines the best parts of the two beloved pastries.

On National Macaron Day, fans can go to François Payard to sample the hybrid creation for free. A percentage of proceeds from any additional macarons purchased will go towards the charity City Harvest, which helps to feed the homeless.
