Mike Campau's hauntingly reflective and artistically manipulated photo series offers a thought-provoking look at social media and its implications at large. Dubbed 'Anti-Social,' the project cynically highlights the problematic communal culture of the digital environment and the almost addict-like societal dependency on media platforms.
The critical look at social media situates clever signage in empty parking lots that is meant as a "symbol of our singularly isolate posts, but placed in a location where it can be easily seen by many." Admitting that there are both positive and negative values to digital platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and the like, Mike Campau seeks to propel problematic behaviors to the forefront. In doing so, the artist seeks to educate the public and make them self-aware in their media use and posting habits.
