At first glance, the Loke Thye Kee Residences might look like something found in New York City. With exposed bricks, dramatic lighting and minimalist decor, it has a big city feel that's often associated with refurbished American factories and lofts. Instead, this boutique hotel is located in Penang, Malaysia, a fact that explains some of the more exotic details found throughout the space.
Designed with the help of Ministry of Design architects, who are based in Singapore, the Loke Thye Kee Residences is made out of pre-war shophouses. Now full of chic modern touches, it's a must-stay destinations for travellers who find themselves in this neck of the woods. The boutique features striking artworks from Ch’ng Kiah Kiean as well as vintage Hainanese-Chinese restaurant.
