The Lampuga is a German-designed surfboard that is billed as being the fastest electric surfboard in the world. With a top speed of 55 km/h, this claim holds up well compared to released and available electric surfboards.
The Lampuga uses the popular e-surfboard method of electric drive. The 15-horsepower drive makes use of a brushless synchronous motor that is powered by a 52-volt lithium-ion battery. This allows for a range of up to 20 km and a runtime of 20 to 35 minutes on a full charge. The board has a carbon fiber and composite construction that allows it to extract maximum speed from the electric drive.
The Lampuga won't go cheap, and is expected to retail for around $17,580. The price may make this a bit of a luxury novelty, but as more and more such products enter the market, the electric surfboard could become more of a common man's plaything in the future.
