The Experimenta Vase Incorporates Lamp Chimneys into Its Design

Paris-based Italian designer Giuseppe Bessero Belti designed the Experimenta lamp vases, a prototype which combines 3D printing technology with paraffin lamp chimneys.

The water-filled bases are secured to glass chimneys, which are found from vintage lamps. Due to technological innovation, the shape of chimneys in these lamps varied between the late 18th and 19th centuries; many of these variations are present in Belti's Experimenta collection.

Belti explains, "During the era in which the first oil lamps were conceived, the design was oriented as much as possible toward the mass market. Today we find ourselves in a different socio-cultural context and the aim is increasingly to create micro-markets to accommodate the need for uniqueness and the niches of new consumers."
