Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskeys

Old Forester Debuts High Angels' Share Rye

Old Forester has added a new limited small-batch release to its 117 Series with the introduction of High Angels' Share Rye, a Kentucky straight rye whiskey. This expression emerges from barrels subjected to higher-than-usual evaporative loss during maturation in the distillery’s heat-cycled warehouses.

Old Forester's High Angels' Share Rye, in other words, is drawn from casks where the natural process of evaporation — commonly referred to as the angels’ share — has occurred at an elevated rate. This results in a concentrated liquid with intensified flavors. Bottled at 110 proof and presented in a 375-milliliter format, the inaugural Kentucky straight rye whiskey batch is characterized by chocolate, hazelnut, citrus oils, burnt sugar, sandalwood, peppercorn, and eucalyptus. These tasting notes reflect the influence of both the rye mash bill and the specific warehouse conditions that contributed to its concentration.
