Jennifer Mehigan's Mixed-Media Art Explores "Cybersensuality"

Singapore-based artist Jennifer Mehigan makes unique creative decisions when it comes to mixing-and-matching traditional painting, drawing and sculpting with work in the digital realm. Her interest is in determining how audiences are stimulated (or not stimulated) in the Information age.

Mehigan pursued a design education in Australia before returning to Singapore, where she become fixated on machinery and technology. In an attempt to describe her own aesthetic, which she also refers to as peri-Internet, Mehigan coined the term "cybersensual."

The word is intended to be a combination of artificial intelligence (computers) and human desire. She likens the word to the type of images people are creating online, explaining, "[...] they're wet and glossy and sexy and repetitive and your body reacts to them but it's like — they are just pixels and it's all an illusion [...] Like cybersex but visual or something."
