Sophie Goineau Designs the Inland Lane Residence

— June 16, 2025 — Art & Design
Sophie Goineau has designed the Inland Lane Residence with a main teak pivot door. It opens up to showcase a ceiling crafted from linear wooden slats which reference the door's own grain texture. The location is constrained by zoning laws and the designer refers her vision as a 'harmonious disruption.' The home was first built in 1965 with a structural character under the description of a mid-century California modernism.

The house unveiled by Goineau poses a challenge of how to honor the traditional build while still creating something that feels new. Goineau notes,“ The structure is an atypical T-shape. The living room, kitchen, and guest ensuite bedroom open up to the pool, so when the doors and windows are open and flow out to the terrace, it gives the sense of a villa with a separate bungalow, cabana, and pool house. And you feel like you’re fully outside from within.”
