Updated Iconic Bathroom Collections

Stefano Giovannoni Revisits the d ILBAGNOALESSI, Collection

The Italian designer Stefano Giovannoni decided to revisit a two-decade-old iconic bathroom collection and update it with contemporary audiences in mind. The capsule in question is ILBAGNOALESSI and Giovannoni designed it back then for Laufen, in collaboration with the popular Italian brand Alessi. The capsule was revered for its sculptural, forward-thinking approach. In 2023, Giovannoni reimagines the iconic bathroom collection through the "evolution of materials and technology."

A key ceramic material in the new rendition of ILBAGNOALESSI is Saphirkeramik. Stemming from Laufen's ongoing research, Saphirkeramik makes it possible to "create thin, malleable forms that are still extremely durable." One may see the material in action through Giovannoni's re-interpretation of the Tuna washbasin. Elsewhere, the designer harnesses a mineral composite called Sentec "that feels velvety to the touch."
