In what first looks like Tim Burton animations, Jim McKenzie's hybrid sculptures are a peculiar and mysterious twist on typical animal sculptures.
While it cannot be argued that the artist did not pay a great amount of attention to detail and intricacy in his work, the strange end product of his hard work is what is truly the conversation starter. The hybrid sculptures all include animal components but do not end there. One sculpture is of a dog encased in a fuzzy caterpillar body with five visible feet. Another is of a scarecrow that is in the form of a boy rather than a straw figure. Perhaps the most intricately designed is the raccoon, unicorn and bird hybrid that were painted in only vivid pink and purple colors.
While they are quite peculiar, these designs are an artistic feat as they look more like animations than sculptures.
