Huy Lam Uses Repeated Phrases to Create His Images of Icons

Huy Lam is the Toronto-based photographer and artist who created these time-consuming pop culture portraits. Lam created his incredibly detailed portraits by repeating the same word or phrase in tiny 4-point type over and over. He switches between colors so that the portraits of the famous faces will better resemble them. For his portrait of artist Vincent Van Gogh, he repeated the word "genius" over and over to portray the artist and his contributions to the art world.

The work of Huy Lam is particularly striking because he uses such iconic famous faces. He does an excellent job of creating images that provoke thought and discussion.
