Blee Halligan Architects designed a house extension that captures sunlight all throughout the day. The three roof extensions on the Manchester bungalow face south, east and west, respectively, so the interior spaces receive the optimal amount of sunlight at times appropriate for the rooms functions.
Each section of the extension has double-height windows to allow a ton of natural light to flood the space. The kitchen faces east, so the rising sun creates a bright space for eating in the morning. The living room faces west as to receive sunlight for a relaxing evening. Each window looks out upon the garden, and the external walls of the house are covered in dark-stained larch panels to help it blend in with the natural surroundings.
