After a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign, Lava Mae has put its homeless shower buses into action. San Francisco is a city riddled with homelessness and nonprofit organization Lava Mae wanted to combat this, but in a sustainable and ingenious way.
The team decided on converting old transit buses into mobile showers which turned out to serve a variety of purposes. By being on wheels, the bus can move across the city and provide homeless showers to much more people than a stationary service could. Secondly, the bus taps into the city's water supply through, reducing the cost of the company. Lastly, the team at Lava Mae have can avoid the possibility of getting evicted by simply driving away.
Lava Mae hopes to promote ideas of "radical hospitality" in which they go above and beyond what is expected from charity organizations.
