The Historical Plant Still Life photo series revolves around arrangements of flowers, vegetables and herbs that correspond with different eras. They are specifically inspired by the garden styles of The Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque and early 1900s. Yet seeing a rose sprouting from the stem of an apple or wheat soaring above a pot of cacti is not something anyone would see today let alone back in the day.
Art directed by Swedish-Norwegian creative consultancy Byggstudio and shot by photographer Märta Thisner, the Historical Plant Still Life photo series was shot for the Sommarland publication. As whimsical and strange as each scene may be, there is a minimalist quality to them that may trick some into believing they are real. Perhaps it will inspire some new breeds of plants.
