Johnson & Johnson Vision is all set to introduce the prescription eye treatment market to a pair of high-tech contact lenses that are designed to automatically develop a tint when exposed to extremely bright light, helping shield wearers from the harsh effects of ultraviolet rays.

Developed as part of a collaboration between the consumer household products giant and Transitions Optical, the Acuvue Oasys With Transitions contact lenses have been in the works for over a decade, with clinical trials being conducted on well over a thousand wearers.

This high-tech contact lenses promise the ability to seamlessly tint from clear to dark, helping to mitigate exposure to ultraviolet rays as well as blue light, which is known to hamper sleep. The lenses are set to be made available on the market in early 2019.
