Radish-Dyed Candy Canes

Trader Joe’s Handmade Candy Canes Get Their Color from Red Radishes

If you're looking for a more wholesome take on the humble candy cane, Trader Joe's new Handmade Candy Canes are the answer.

While most mass-produced candy canes are made with high fructose corn syrup and artificial flavors, Trader Joe's takes a different approach. The brand's new Handmade Candy Canes are made from peppermint oil and tapioca syrup. The brand also used red radishes to give the candy canes their bright red flavor. As if that weren't enough, the candy canes also boast a soft cocoa crème filling that adds extra richness and flavor. As for the production process, Trader Joe's notes that its Handmade Candy Canes are "made by candy cane crafters that have been in the business for 100 years," and are hand-pulled to give "them an eye-catching sheen when displayed on a centerpiece, hanging from a Christmas tree or peeking out of a gift basket."
