Edward Cabral's Halloween pumpkin art looks nothing like a typical Jack-o-Lantern. It's made on pumpkins, it glows from the inside, but that's where the similarities end.

Cabral has been making Halloween pumpkin art for the last three years. He was already a professional artist by trade -- he makes stunning sculptural creations out of cake and fondant icing -- when he discovered pumpkin carving at the Louisville Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular. Now, Cabral's Halloween pumpkin art, despite its unusual canvas, is truly masterful.

To create the Halloween pumpkin art, Cabral uses paint and professional carving tools. Carving to different depths in the flesh of the pumpkin allows more or less light to shine through, creating complex, almost impressionistic patterns. Cabral's themes are often film and cultural references, including a replica of Hokusai's The Great Wave and a tribute to the poster for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
