Renovated Mid-Century Homes

Gustave Carlson Design Renovates a Local Eichler House

Californian design studio Gustave Carlson Design was tapped to renovate an Eichler house that was originally built in 1971 and located in the Palo Alto hills. It was a custom commission by John S. Lynd, who is a close friend of Joseph Eichler. It is now home to a family that owns a large art collection. The renovation retains elements of the original design whilst also adapting to a more contemporary look.

Carlson explains that “An ‘Eichler’ captures the word optimism in built form. These airy, light-filled, and human scale structures convey the promise of the post-World War ll era, as well as Joseph Eichler’s philosophy on domestic life, and the ability of modern design to enhance our quality of life.”
