Design Theory recently completed a residential project that saw the firm update a mid-century modern coastal home in the City Beach suburb of Perth in Western Australia.
The mid-century modern architecture style emerged roughly from the 1930s and 1960s. Its aesthetic was characterized by clean lines, open floor plans, large windows, the use of natural materials, and its emphasis on integration with nature. In recent years, the style has seen a strong resurgence and one can see the aforementioned characteristics in Design Theory's renovation strategy—the sizable windows provide stunning views of the surrounding vegetation while the charm of "the rich palette of natural materials in the original design" is restored and highlighted throughout the renovation.
